    Description

Brand new batch just finished 5-17-21
Reproduction 70's Music Man logo badges.
THIS IS FOR A SILVER BADGE WITH BLACK LETTERS. (see other auction for BLACK badge)
First, let's set expectations. OMG, these are so friggen cool!! But, they are not mass produced by the thousands, or cast of metal. These are EPOXY RESIN (plastic) They are molded one at a time, and they are close to perfect, but as a hand finished product not stamped from a machine, they may have tiny imperfections upon critical inspection. I put 5 coats of satin clear on these to keep em from chipping, and the finish seems really strong.
I only have 10 of the Silver large badges, and 5 of the Black large badge right now. I am going to be molding more if needed, I now have someone who can produce small resin jobs.
    ONLY 10 in this batch!!
I already manufacture obsolete Music Man Amplifier Chassis straps, (Search item 143834176526) and I had several customers ask me about logo badges. (insert badges joke) I set out to see if there was a need and to see if it was possible to find. Well, like you, I couldn't find any. I started researching what they were made of and found they were cast metal. Casting metal is a hugely expensive proposition to make a few badges. If I needed 100,000 it might have worked. So, casting was out, then I thought of 3-D printing, and CNC machining, and just the cost of making a 3-D scan was ridiculously expensive. I wasn't giving up. In the meantime I searched e-bay and reverb daily, reached out to my friends who might have parts, and (not cheaply) wound up with a genuine large, and small badge! Next thought, was injection molding, again only good if you're mass producing! Then I came across a resin casting forum and reached out for help. I wanted to make sure every single tiny bit of detail was there, I did not want a flat piece or muddied details. I worked with a talented group at a NY sculpture studio and was able to make a beautiful, detailed mold of each!
The first were created with a special heavy weight resin to try to make them a little heavier feeling, but it was very difficult to get a good casting. The resin needed to be vacuum degassed, then cured under pressure for 4 hours. This group is in a lighter weight resin which flows easier and makes a beautiful and perfectly detailed casting. After casting, the newly formed epoxy resin badges need the screw holes reamed, the back and sides sanded, chemical cleaning to remove mold release, adhesion promoter, priming, painting, letter painting and clear coating for protection. All these steps must be done by hand. (so please don't complain that they are 20 bucks!!)
The first time I listed these, I sold every piece.
Please note:  I don't have molds for ANY of the small individual model badges.
I'm never gonna get the money back I've put into this, but it gave me a pandemic project, and I'm helping the Music Man Amplifier community.
WARNING:     THIS BADGE IS NOT METAL, YOU MUST BE CAREFUL SCREWING IT ONTO YOUR AMP FACE AND NOT CRACKING IT!!!  JUST MAKE IT SNUG AND STOP!a little update.Note: I did not include screws because I was very worried about the badge and screws packaged together, somehow wrecking the badge! There aren't any extra badges to replace damaged ones! The screw that seems to fit best, is a #4 x 1/2" flat head phillips, but any small screw will do it! Depends on how fancy you want it.  Thanks
